GANNON GRAPPLERS REMAIN
UNDEFEATED AT HOME
 
ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University wrestling team improved its home dual record to 3-0 after defeating the Limestone (S.C.) Saints 26-9 at the Hammermill Center Saturday evening.
   
The Golden Knights (7-3) are ranked 12th nationally, according to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Top-20 poll, and third in the East Region. Limestone (15-4-1) sits 19th in the nation and fifth in the East Region.
   
Gannon’s Scott Baron (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) kicked the evening off with a 5-4 decision over Ian Barker in the 125-pound weight class bout.
   
Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) earned the Golden Knights four more points with a 13-4 major decision over 133-pounder Brent Clausing.
   
Redshirt-sophomore Kevin McElhaney (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown Area) recorded the dual’s only fall after pinning Limestone’s Riley Pike in 3 minutes, 41 seconds at 141.
   
Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) extended the Golden Knights’ lead to 16-0 after winning a 6-3 decision over Dustin Baynes at 149.
   
Brandon Monin (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) gave Gannon three more points with a 5-3 decision over Mikel Bush at 157.
   
Limestone’s Casey Bradley thwarted Gannon’s chance at a sweep by earning a 5-3 decision over Tony Petrella (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) at 165.
   
Gannon’s A.J. Sayles (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) took 174 with a 7-6 decision over Joby Schreckhise.
   
Limestone sophomore Dan Scanlan, ranked third nationally at 184, defeated Pino Scavella (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) 7-3.
  
Gannon’s Jacob Tazzi (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) recorded a 14-6 major decision over Dave Bush at 197.
   
Limestone heavyweight Trey Moss, a returning 2007 national qualifier, defeated Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) by 3-2 decision.
   
The Golden Knights will wrestle their final home dual of the 2007-08 campaign at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 20 against Seton Hill.
