PLACES FIVE WRESTLERS
AT JAYHAWK INVITE
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The
Gannon University wrestling team produced three first-place wins at the
Jamestown Jayhawk Invitational, hosted by Jamestown Community College,
Saturday. No team scores were kept.
Kevin McElhaney (Jamestown,
Pa./Jamestown Area) was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Match
after a 4-0 run with two pins, earning him first place in the 141-pound
weight class.
Freshman Ethan Swope (Luthersburg,
Pa/DuBois Area) took first at 133 with three consecutive wins by
decision and zero losses.
A.J. Sayles (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle
Vernon) was perfect at 174, defeating three opponents and taking
first in the weight class.
Redshirt-senior Pino Scavella (Erie,
Pa./Harbor Creek) added four more pins Saturday for a season
total of 15. Scavella finished third in the 184-pound bout with a 4-1
overall record at the event.
Heavyweight Jimmy Martz (Hookstown,
Pa./Southside Beaver) earned fourth-place honors. The freshman
went 4-2 overall and pinned three opponents.
The Golden Knights return to action on Saturday, February 2. Gannon
will compete in a dual at West Liberty State, beginning at 7 p.m.
