GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL 21-17 TO
ASHLAND IN WRESTLING DUAL ACTION
 
ASHLAND, Ohio - The 12th-ranked Gannon University wrestling team lost only its third dual match this season in an away contest against 10th-ranked Ashland University Wednesday evening. The Eagles overtook the Golden Knights 21-17.
   
Seven of the 10 bouts ended in closely-contested decisions, with no decision exceeding a four-point differential.
   
Scott Baron (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) gave Gannon (6-3) an early 3-0 lead after winning a 2-1 decision over Brandon Davis in the 125-pound weight class match-up.
   
Ashland’s forfeiture of 133 gave Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) a free win and the Golden Knights six points.
   
Gannon’s Kevin McElhaney (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown Area) won the 141-pound bout in a 5-2 decision over Kyle Kanaga.
   
Ashland (9-8) chipped away at Gannon’s 12-0 lead with consecutive wins by decision though 184 and put the lead out of reach after taking 197 by fall.
   
Gannon heavyweight Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine) closed the evening with a 6 minute, 48 second technical fall over Ashland’s Ray Kent.
   
The Golden Knights, ranked third in the East Region, continues action at 7 p.m. Saturday, February 15 when they return home to take on Limestone (S.C.).
