GANNON PLACES NINE WRESTLERS
AT CATHOLIC INVITATIONAL
 
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon University wrestling team competed at the Catholic Invitational Saturday and placed nine wrestlers, including three first-place victories. The Golden Knights finished second among nine schools competing, beaten only by host Mercyhurst.
   
A.J. Sayles (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon), Pino Scavella (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek), and Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) each took top honors in their respective weight classes. Sayles went 4-0 to take first at 174. Scavella finished atop 184 after a perfect 3-0 run. McGrath bested all heavyweights by going 4-0 and pinning one opponent.
   
Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) took second place among 149-pounders and finished the day with three wins and one loss.
   
Two Golden Knights finished third. Brandon Monin (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) went 5-1 at 157 and pinned two opponents. Mike Cavalier (Newbury, Ohio/Newbury) closed the day at 4-2 overall with one pin.
    
Freshman Ethan Swope (Luthersburg, Pa./DuBois Area) and Brian Yoder (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) each finished fourth Saturday. Swope went 3-2 at 133. Yoder went 4-2 at 141 with a pin for every win.
   
Chris Daniels (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) took fifth place among 174-pounders. Daniels ended the event at 3-1 overall and pinned one opponent.
   
The Golden Knights continue action on Saturday, November 17 at the Ashland Open, hosted by Ashland University.
