GANNON WRESTLING TEAM REMAINS
THIRD IN EAST REGIONAL RANKINGS

SEVEN KNIGHTS RANKED IN EAST REGION INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
   
 
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon wrestling team remained third in the latest NCAA Division II East regional rankings released Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Knights have been ranked third in three consecutive regional polls.
   
Newberry (S.C.) overtook Pitt-Johnstown for the region’s top spot. Pitt-Johnstown dropped to second. Gannon, Mercyhurst, and Limestone rounded out the top five.
   
Shippensburg, Belmont Abbey, West Liberty State, UNC-Pembroke, and Kutztown completed the top 10.
   
Gannon, ranked 13th in NCAA Division II, improved to 5-2 in dual competition with a 25-15 victory at West Liberty State last Saturday. The Golden Knights’ only two losses have come at the hands of the region’s top two teams.
   
Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) is Gannon’s highest-ranked wrestler. The sophomore is ranked second at 149 pounds, moving up one spot from the last regional ranking. He is 15-9 overall with six pins. McKendree is 3-3 in dual competition.
   
Brandon Monin (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) and Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) are listed third in their respective weight classes. Monin remained third at 157. The redshirt junior is 17-8 overall with three pins. He is 5-2 in dual action this season. Bowers moved from fifth to third at 133 with a 17-6 overall record and four pins. The junior is 4-1 in dual matches.
   
Other Gannon wrestlers ranked in the East region include Frank McGrath (4th, Heavyweight, 16-6, 3 pins), Kevin McElhaney (5th, 141, 24-10, 12 pins), Pino Scavella (5th, 184, 24-11, 17 pins), and A.J. Sayles (8th, 174, 18-8, 4 pins).
   
Gannon returns to action Saturday, February 9 against Shippensburg at the Hammermill Center. The match is scheduled for 8 p.m
