GANNON WRESTLING TEAM REMAINS
THIRD IN EAST REGIONAL RANKINGS
SEVEN KNIGHTS RANKED IN EAST REGION INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon wrestling
team remained third in the latest NCAA Division II East regional rankings
released earlier this week. The Golden Knights also remained 13th in the
latest NCAA Division II national top-25 poll.
Pitt-Johnstown is the top-ranked team in the East region with a 9-4 dual
record. Newberry (S.C.) is second with a 9-5 dual mark. Gannon, which lost
its last two matches against the region’s top two teams, owns a 4-2 dual
record.
Mercyhurst (4-8), Limestone (11-1), Belmont Abbey (5-5-1), UNC Pembroke (3-6),
West Liberty State (6-6), Shippensburg (2-1), and Kutztown (5-2) completed
the top 10.
Brandon Monin (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) and Zack McKendree (Vandergrift,
Pa./Kiski Area) are Gannon’s highest-ranked wrestlers. Monin was the
top-ranked grappler at 157 in the previous regional rankings, but fell to
third place. The redshirt junior is 16-8 overall with three pins. He is 4-2
in dual action this season. The two-time NCAA qualifier owns a 63-40 career
record with 14 pins.
McKendree dropped one spot to third at 149. The sophomore has posted a 14-9
overall record with six pins. He is 2-3 in dual action.
Other Gannon wrestlers ranked in the East region include Frank McGrath (4th,
Heavyweight, 15-6, 3 pins), Kevin McElhaney (5th, 141, 20-9, 10 pins), Pino
Scavella (5th, 184, 19-10, 11 pins), Corey Bowers (5th, 133, 16-6, 4 pins),
and A.J. Sayles (8th, 174, 15-7, 3).
Gannon returns to action Saturday, February 2 at West Liberty State. The
match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
