WRESTLING TEAM RANKED
THIRD IN EAST REGIONAL RANKINGS
EIGHT GOLDEN KNIGHTS LISTED IN INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon wrestling
team is ranked third in the latest NCAA Division II East regional rankings
released Monday afternoon. Eight Golden Knights are listed in the individual
rankings.
Pitt-Johnstown is the top-ranked team in the East region with a 4-2 dual
record. Newberry (5-5), Gannon (2-0), Mercyhurst (3-6), and Limestone (9-1)
completed the top five.
Brandon Monin (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) is the region’s top-ranked
wrestler at 157. The redshirt junior is 14-6 overall with three pins. He
is 2-0 in dual action this season. The two-time NCAA qualifier owns a 61-38
career record with 14 pins.
Zack McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) is listed second at 149.
The sophomore has posted a 13-7 overall record with five pins. He is 1-1
in dual action.
Other Gannon wrestlers ranked in the East region include Frank McGrath (3rd,
Heavyweight, 13-4, 2 pins), Kevin McElhaney (5th, 141, 18-7, 10 pins), Pino
Scavella (5th, 184, 17-8, 11 pins), Corey Bowers (6th, 133, 14-5, 4 pins),
A.J. Sayles (7th, 174, 13-5, 2), and Tony Petrella (8th, 165, 5-4, 1 pin).
Gannon (2-0) returns to action Friday, January 11 and Saturday, January 12
at the Virginia Duals.
