GANNON WRESTLING TEAM DROPS TO
14TH IN LATEST NATIONAL RANKINGS
GOLDEN KNIGHTS SENDING FOUR TO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon
wrestling team dropped two spots and is ranked 14th in the latest NCAA Division
II Wrestling Coaches Association Top 20 poll released Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Knights were ranked 12th in the last two bi-weekly polls.
Minnesota State-Mankato moved back into the top spot after a one-poll hiatus,
receiving 160 points. Nebraska-Omaha (149), Nebraska-Kearney (147), Western
State (Colo.) (133), and Adams State (Colo.) (126) completed the top five.
Newberry (S.C.) (119), Central Oklahoma (118), Pitt-Johnstown (103), and
Upper Iowa (92) were listed six through nine. Ashland and St. Cloud State
(Minn.) were tied for 10th with 79 points. Gannon was tabbed 14th with 49
points.
Gannon finished fourth at the NCAA Division II East Regionals last weekend.
Four Golden Knights finished in the top four of their respective weight classes
and will be wrestling at the NCAA Division II National Championships hosted
by Upper Iowa March 14-15.
Zach McKendree (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) was Gannon’s top finisher,
placing third at 149. Pino Scavella (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) and Frank
McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) placed fourth at 184 and
heavyweight. Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) advanced at 133
by winning a true fourth-place bout.
