GANNON WRESTLERS TO FACE
MERCYHURST NORTH EAST AT HOME
 
 
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon University men’s wrestling team hosts its first home dual on Wednesday, December 5. The Golden Knights will take on Mercyhurst North East at the Hammermill Center at 7 p.m. Gannon defeated Mercyhurst North East 15-14 last year.
   
The contest marks Gannon’s first dual for the 2007-08 season. The Golden Knights enter the event off a third-place finish the Ashland University Invitational, which hosted eight schools. Freshman Corey Bowers (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) placed first at 133 with a 4-0 run in the bracket. Bowers is 9-3 overall this season. Redshirt-sophomore Kevin McElhaney (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown Area) earned top honors among 141-pounders with a 3-0 record and two pins. McElhaney has tallied five pins this year and a 13-5 overall record.
   
Erie-native Pino Scavella (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) has placed in all four events this season, taking first at the Catholic Invitational, hosted by Mercyhurst College, and third at the Ashland Invitational. Scavella is 14-5 overall and has 10 pins.
   
Redshirt-senior A.J. Sayles (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) has participated in three events, placing third or greater in each. Sayles is 11-2 overall.
   
Heavyweight Frank McGrath (Hammonton, N.J./St. Augustine) has also placed in all three events he has participated. The redshirt-sophomore is 8-2 overall.
   
Mercyhurst North East has competed in two duals this year. The Saints defeated Alfred State College 30-12 and handily overtook Jamestown Community College 41-6.
