GANNON WATER POLO ENDS REGULAR
SEASON WITH PAIR OF HOME VICTORIES
   
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men’s water polo team ended its regular season Saturday evening with a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) victories at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The Golden Knights opened the day with a 15-12 victory over Penn State Behrend and ended the action with a 16-9 decision over Washington & Jefferson.
   
In the opener, Gannon overcame an 8-7 halftime deficit and completed a season sweep of Penn State Behrend. The Lions led 3-2 after one quarter and 8-7 at halftime, before the Golden Knights took control with a 4-0 edge in the third frame.
   
Richie DiLoreto (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Paul Musille (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) led the scoring with four goals each. Zach Dusckas (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Dmitriy Simonoff (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) chipped in two goals apiece.
   
John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Stephen Espinet (Port of Spain, Trinidad), and Greg Naranjo (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) completed the scoring with one goal each.
   
Brandon Thomas (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) started the match in goal, making five saves and allowing eight goals in two quarters. Darren Stone (Glenwood, Durban, South Africa) recorded two saves while allowing four goals in two quarters of relief action.
   
In the nightcap, Gannon controlled the match throughout during a 16-9 victory over Washington & Jefferson. The Golden Knights led 4-2 after one quarter, 9-3 at halftime, and 15-6 after three quarters.
   
DiLoreto led the charge again with four goals. Naranjo evened DiLoreto with four scores of his own. Simonoff and Espinet recorded hat tricks while Krakowski and Dusckas netted one score each. Thomas had eight saves in the win.
   
Gannon improved to 9-6 overall and 7-1 in the CWPA with Saturday’s sweep. Penn State Behrend dropped to 4-16 overall and 2-5 in conference action. Washington & Jefferson fell to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the CWPA.
   
The Golden Knights return to action October 26-28 at the Division II Eastern Championships hosted by MIT.
