GANNON FALLS TO PRINCETON
IN CWPA CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Gannon men’s water polo team opened the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championships Friday evening with a 9-6 loss to Princeton. The U.S. Naval Academy is hosting the three-day event.

Princeton owned a slight 2-1 edge after the first quarter, but the Tigers exploded for five unanswered goals in the second quarter. The outburst gave Princeton a 7-1 lead heading into halftime.

Gannon out-scored the Tigers 4-1 in the third quarter, but could get any closer as both squads posted one score each in the final period.

Paul Musille (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) led Gannon’s offensive unit with four goals. Richie DiLoreto (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Greg Naranjo (Coral Springs, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) added one goal each. Brandon Thomas (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) turned away 11 shots in goal.

Gannon dropped to 11-8 with Friday’s loss. Princeton improved to 13-13. The Golden Knights continue play at the CWPA Southern Division Championships Saturday, November 3 with matches against the U.S. Naval Academy (12:45 p.m.) and Salem International (5:45 p.m.).
