GANNON
DOMINATES ECAC WEEKLY SWIMMING AND DIVING AWARDS
ERIE, PA - The Gannon swimming
and diving teams won three weekly awards on Wednesday. John Cenedella
(Franklin, Pa./Franklin) and Sonya Pyle (Bradford, Pa./Bradford
Central Christian) were named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)
Swimmers of the Week. Justin Piazza (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) was
named ECAC Diver of the Week.
Cenedella placed high in
several events as the Gannon men’s team finished second out of nine teams
at the seventh annual James E. Longnecker Invitational last weekend. Cenedella
placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:47.80), fifth in the 100 freestyle
(49.29) and sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:03.40). He was also part of the
relay teams that finished second in the 800 freestyle (7:22.29), third
in the 400 freestyle (3:20.56), fourth in the 400 medley (3:45.28) and
fourth in the 200 medley (1:42.13).
Pyle also placed high in
several events as the Gannon women’s team finished second out of 10 teams
at the seventh annual James E. Longnecker Invitational. Pyle was part of
the winning relay teams in the 200 freestyle (1:41.30) and 400 medley relay
(4:09.52). She was also part of the relay team that finished third in the
800 freestyle (8:13.32) and fourth in the 400 freestyle (3:47.59). Pyle
placed second in the 50 freestyle (25.28), second in the 200 freestyle
(2:00.22) and third in the 100 freestyle (54.93).
Piazza won both the one-meter
(230.25) and three-meter (231.70) diving events at the seventh annual James
E. Longnecker Invitational. Piazza won both events for the second consecutive
year.
Both Gannon swim teams are
off until heading to Florida December 29-January 10 for their annual winter
training.
