GANNON OVERTAKES FREDONIA
IN SWIMMING DUALS

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Gannon University men’s and women’s swimming teams each won their respective duals at Fredonia State University Saturday afternoon. The Lady Knights bested Fredonia 124-119, while the Golden Knights defeated the Blue Devils 138-92.
   
The women’s squad produced two triple-winners. Sophomore Rachel Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell) joined Sarah Lawton (Franklin, Pa./Franklin), Ellie Hess (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell), and Carey Siwek (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) in a 4:14.61 take of the 400-yard medley relay. Rzymek also won the 50-yard freestyle (25.18) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.98).
   
Ashlee Calandra (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.00 and took the 500-yard freestyle in 5:21.95. Calandra’s 8:12.11 take of the 800-yard freestyle relay gave her the triple-win. Hess also participated on the relay team, making her a double-winner. Liz Clary (Canton, Ohio/Westerville North) and Brenna Pease (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) rounded out the 800-yard freestyle relay team. Pease also the 1000-yard freestyle (11:07.31), giving her a double-win.
  
All four of the men’s double-winners participated on the 400 medley relay squad. Michael Piper (Houston, Texas, Clear Lake), Connor Wolf (Canton, Ohio/Central Catholic), Richie DiLoreto (Erie, Pa./McDowell), and John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) needed only 3:42.08 to take the event. Krakowski won the 500-yard freestyle in 22.53. Wolf narrowly took the 100-yard freestyle (50.22). DiLoreto finished first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:36.98). Piper’s finishing time of 5:12.10 won him the 500-yard freestyle.
   
Gannon will host Edinboro on Friday, January 18, beginning at 5 p.m.
