SWIMMERS OVERTAKE
PENN STATE BEHREND
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon
University men’s and women’s swimming teams swept the Penn State
Behrend Lions in a dual meet Friday evening. The men’s squad defeated
the cross-town rival 110-71, while the Lady Knights overtook host
Behrend 122-52. Scoring was only kept through the first 20 events. The
final seven events were considered exhibitions.
Val Adams (Erie, Pa./McDowell)
and Carey Siwek (Bethel Park,
Pa./Bethel Park) recorded double-wins for the Lady Knights. Both
took first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:27.32. Rebecca Eberly (Eighty Four, Pa./Canon
McMillian) and Ashlee Calandra
(Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) also participated on the relay team.
Adams won the 500 freestyle in 5:33.91. Siwek topped all competitors in
the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:19.95.
Michael Piper (Houston, Texas/Clear
Lake) posted a double-win for the Golden Knights. Piper finished
the 200 backstroke in 2:02.16 and joined Matt Krizmanic (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie
Valley), Joe Wagner
(Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch), and David
Landry (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) with a 2:02.16 take of
the 400 medley relay.
The men’s and women’s swimming teams continue action on Thursday,
November 29 at the three-day-long Ashland Invitational, hosted by
Ashland University.
