GANNON'S
MUSILLE AND BERESFORD
HEAD TO NCAA DIVISION II SWIMMING
AND DIVING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s
and men’s swimming and diving teams will be sending two student-athletes to
the NCAA Division II National Championships March 12-15 at the University
of Missouri.
Paul Musille (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak) and Megan Beresford (Greensburg,
Pa./Hempfield Area) will be participating in the national championships
hosted by Missouri S&T at the University of Missouri’s Mizzou Aquatic
Center.
Musille is only the second Gannon male swimmer to ever qualify for the NCAA
Division II National Championships and the first since Brett Lindenmuth earned
all-america honors in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke
at the 1997 national championships.
The Canton, Ohio native will be swimming in the 50-freestyle, the 100-freestyle,
and the 200-freestyle events. He holds three individual school records and
was part of four relay teams that produced school records.
Musille is the school’s record holder in the 50-freestyle (20.88), the 100-freestyle
(45.85), and the 200-freestyle (1:42.30). He was also a member of relay teams
that holds school records in the 200-yard freestyle (1:23.88), 400-yard freestyle
(3:06.20), the 200-yard medley (1:33.70), and the 400-yard medley (3:29.55).
Beresford has qualified to participate in the NCAA Division II Diving Prequalifications
on March 11. The top 16 will then move on to national finals. She is attempting
to become only the second female diver in school history to make it through
prequalifications and participate in the national championships. Carol Garrett
is the only female diver in school history to participate in the national
championships back in 1986. Three male divers (Tim Kuzma - 1988, Justin Piazza
- 2004, Todd Gibson - 2007) also qualified for the national championships.
