FOUR GOLDEN KNIGHTS NAMED TO
MEN'S SOCCER ALL-REGION TEAMS

CUTHBERT NAMED TO DAKTRONICS ALL-REGION FIRST TEAM

ERIE, Pa. - Four Golden Knights have been named to the Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region men’s soccer teams released Tuesday afternoon. Matt Cuthbert (London, Ontario/Sir Wilfrid Laurier) was named to the all-region first team.

Gareth Kolkenbeck-Ruh (Johannesburg, South Africa/St. David’s Marist Inanda), Dan Howell (Erie, Pa./Iroquois), and Jonathan Whiley (Mississauga, Ontario/Loyola Catholic S.S.) were named to the all-region second team.

Cuthbert has started every match during his two-year career at Gannon, including all 19 contests this season. The senior defender leads a Gannon defense that tops the GLIAC in goals allowed (21), goals against average (1.08), and shutouts (5).  Offensively, he has scored two important goals this season. His first was the game-winner during a 2-1 victory against Northwood. His second forged a 1-1 tie against Mercyhurst.

Kolkenbeck-Ruh has split time as a midfielder and defender. The senior was named GLIAC Defender of the Year and earned a spot on the All-GLIAC first team. He has scored four times this season, including two game-winning goals against Indianapolis and Saginaw Valley State. Kolkenbeck-Ruh has recorded 10 goals, four assists, and 24 points during his career.

Howell leads Gannon in goals (11), assists (12) and points (34). The redshirt sophomore leads the GLIAC and ranks fifth nationally in assists per match (0.63). He ranks second among GLIAC players in points per match (1.79) and third in goals (11).

Whiley has performed well during his first season as a starter. The sophomore defender has started 18 matches while being part of a Gannon defense that tops the GLIAC in goals allowed, goals against average, and shutouts. He scored his only goal in the season opener against Kentucky Wesleyan. Whiley had three goals and seven points as a true freshman last season.

Gannon (16-2-1) will participate in its first NCAA Tournament since 1993 this weekend in Highland Heights, Kentucky. The Golden Knights face top seed Northern Kentucky Friday, November 9 in the opening round. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m
