GANNON LANDS FOUR PLAYERS
ON ALL-GLIAC FOOTBALL TEAM
     
ERIE, Pa. - Four Golden Knights were named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) honorable-mention football team announced Wednesday afternoon.
   
Ronald Keels (Kenmore, N.Y./Cardinal O’Hara), Alton Kenner (Buffalo, N.Y./Turner-Carroll), Chris Murphy (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park), and Jon Richardson (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) were selected to the post-season team.
   
Keels completed his collegiate career as Gannon’s all-time leader in kickoff returns (77) and kickoff return yardage (1,480). The senior wide-out ranked eighth all-time in all-purpose yards (2,224). In 2007, Keels caught 18 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown. He averaged 14.4 yards per reception.
   
Kenner produced a solid final campaign, ranking fourth among GLIAC players and 23rd nationally in tackles per game (10.0). The senior linebacker led Gannon in tackles (90) despite missing two games due to an injury. He added 7.5 tackles for a loss (29 yards), three sacks (18 yards), two pass break-ups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
   
Murphy ranked fifth among GLIAC players in fumble recoveries per game (0.20) and eighth in forced fumbles per game (0.20). The junior defensive lineman was fifth on the team in tackles (47). He posted 3.5 tackles for a loss (15 yards), 1.5 sacks (10 yards), one interception, and two pass break-ups.
   
Richardson rushed for 698 yards and seven touchdowns on 154 carries. The redshirt sophomore exploded in the second half of the season, averaging 110 yards and one touchdown during the last five games. The hot streak included at least 142 rushing yards three times in the final four contests. In addition, Richardson caught 28 passes for 238 yards and two scores.
