GANNON ANNOUNCES SECOND
WAVE OF FOOTBALL RECRUITS

ADDITIONS INCLUDE THREE-STAR WIDEOUT,
TWO STATE CHAMPIONS, AND THREE ERIE NATIVES
     
ERIE, Pa. - Gannon head football coach Jim Kiernan has announced the addition of 10 more student-athletes to the 2008 recruiting class, bringing the overall total to 19. Nine student-athletes committed to Gannon during the first official signing day on February 6.
   
The recent list of newcomers includes a junior college transfer and nine high school players. The list announced today consist of Sylvester Burel (Redlands/San Bernardino Valley College), Chris Cook (East Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw), Jonathon Jones (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas), Jonathan Petrigac (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), Nick Arrigo (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep), Joe Conde (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep), Dan Miller (Erie, Pa./Seneca), Jim Morgan (New Milford, N.J./New Milford), Mike Schweisthal (Strongsville, Ohio/St. Edward), and Patrick Zelno (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal).

Gannon begins its first season as a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in 2008. The Golden Knights are tentatively scheduled to open the campaign Saturday, August 30 with a non-conference game at Lake Erie. The inaugural PSAC schedule begins Saturday, September 6 at East Stroudsburg. Gannon opens the season with four road games, before hosting Clarion September 27 in the home opener

~ Was a two-time all-state honorable-mention, two-time all-district second-team, and two-time all-conference first-team honoree
~ Led Shaw to the league championship and state playoffs as a junior
~ Was a two-sport athlete, also participating in track and field
~ Participated in the 100-meter dash, high jump, long jump, 4X100 relay, and 4X200 relay

~ Was a three-year starter, leading Central Catholic to the PIAA Class AAAA Championship as a senior
