CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS OPEN
SEASON WITH SECOND-PLAC FINISHES
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The
Gannon cross country teams opened the 2007 season with a pair of second-place
finishes Saturday afternoon at the Fisher Invitational hosted by Westminster
(Pa.) College.
The women’s team placed second out of 10 teams with 52 points, narrowly finishing
behind Franciscan’s championship total of 43. Penn State Behrend (87), St.
Vincent (99), and Alderson Broaddus (130) completed the top five.
Rosie Cooper (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer) was Gannon’s top female runner,
placing second with a time of 19 minutes and 58 seconds. The sophomore finished
2.3 seconds behind the winner.
Shayna Weir (6th, 20:13.2), Julie Snyder (11th, 20:40.9), Brittany Zaborowski
(12th, 20:50.3), Stephanie Wilson (26th, 21:51.0), Kristin O’Hern (33rd,
22:15.2), Mindy Klavon (45th, 22:48.9), Kim Urbanowicz (47th, 22:54.0), Mandie
Britton (54th, 23:21.9), Krystal Kennett (60th, 23:43.7), Francesca Colella
(61st, 23:45.6), Jillian Rhoads (62nd, 23:53.5), and Nicole Shingledecker
(66th, 24:15.0) also competed for the Lady Knights.
The men’s team finished second out of nine teams with 52 points. Penn State
Behrend won the team title with 26 points. Alderson-Broaddus (62), Westminster
(134), and Thiel (143) rounded out the top five.
Dan Shephard (Monkton, Md./North Harford) was Gannon’s top male runner,
placing fourth with a time of 28 minutes and 25 seconds. Brandon Chambers
(9th, 29:13.4), Mike Mion (10th, 29:15.9), Adam Green (12th, 29:25.4), Ben
Shannon (17th, 30:05.3), Mike Hardesty (26th, 31:05.8), Matt Bauer (29th,
31:14.5), Paul Fledderman (35th, 31:42.9), Greg Delost (41st, 32:11.9), Dustin
Russ (44th, 32:27.2), and Christopher Cuviello (51st, 33:09.0) also competed
for the Golden Knights.
Gannon returns to action Friday, September 14 at the Notre Dame Invitational.
