GANNON MEN'S BASKETBALL INCHES UP
TO FIFTH IN LATEST REGIONAL RANKINGS

LATEST RANKINGS DO NOT INCLUDE TUESDAY'S GLVC QUARTERFINALS

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men’s basketball team moved up one spot and is ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes regional rankings released Wednesday afternoon. The latest rankings only considered games played through Sunday, March 2 and did not consider Tuesday's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Quarterfinals. Northern Kentucky, Kentucky Wesleyan, and SIU Edwardsville all lost home games in the GLVC Quarterfinals while Drury posted a 70-66 victory over Bellarmine.

The regional rankings are important due to the fact that they represent how teams qualify for the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) post-season champions receive automatic bids. The top six remaining teams in the regional rankings receive at-large bids to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.

The NCAA Division II Tournament selection show is scheduled for Sunday, March 9 at 10:30 p.m.

The GLIAC retained control of the top two spots. Grand Valley State continued its season-long stay as the top-ranked team in the Great Lakes region with a 27-0 record against Division II teams and 24-0 Division II in-region record. Findlay (21-3, 20-3), Northern Kentucky (17-6, 15-6), Kentucky Wesleyan (19-6, 17-5), and Gannon (22-3, 22-3) complete the top five.

Drury (Mo.) (18-5, 17-4), St. Joseph’s (Ind.) (16-10, 15-9), Bellarmine (Ky.) (15-9, 14-9), Lewis (Ill.) (15-9, 15-8), and Wisconsin-Parkside (13-11, 13-11) round out the top 10.

Gannon, ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, advanced to the GLIAC Final Four with an 89-70 victory against Ashland last Saturday in a GLIAC quarterfinal game at the Hammermill Center. The GLIAC South Division champions are 25-3, being one of only four teams in school history to record 25 wins in a season. Only the 1986-87 squad that played in the NCAA Division II title game won more games with a 28-6 record.

Gannon opens the GLIAC Final Four Friday, March 7 against No. 6 Findlay at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. The contest can be heard live on Jet Radio 1400 and via the Internet at http://www.gannon.edu/sports/werg/knightsound.ihtml.

All GLIAC Final Four contests can be seen live at http://208.67.186.247/b2livetv/promo/gliacbasketballM.html. B2 Networks will broadcast the games. Cost to view each game is $6. Fans wanting to watch the GLIAC Final Four via B2 Networks will need a high-speed Internet connection and a current version of Microsoft Windows Media Player.
