GANNON'S MOSLEY SELECTED TO PLAY
IN 2008 NCAA DIVISION II ALL-STAR GAME
SENIOR FORWARD ONE OF 20 PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY TO PLAY
ERIE, Pa. - Gannon’s Vince
Mosley (Boynton Beach, Fla./Dillard) has officially been declared one
of the best in the country. Mosley, a senior forward, has been selected to
play in the Third Annual NABC/NCAA Division II All-Star Game to be held Friday,
March 28 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The All-Star Game will match an East All-Star Team (with 10 student-athletes
from the NCAA East, Northeast, South, and South Atlantic regions) against
a West All-Star Team (with 10 student-athletes from the NCAA Great Lakes,
North Central, South Central, and West regions).
Only 20 student-athletes and two coaches were selected for the prestigious
event. The All-Star Game will be part of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball
Elite Eight which will be held March 26, 27, and 29 at the MassMutual Center
in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The West All-Star Team consists of Mosley, Cory Abercrombie (Pittsburg State),
David Dreas (St. Cloud State), Jeff Fahnbulleh (Kentucky Wesleyan), Robert
Lee (West Texas A&M), Avery Patterson (Tarleton State), Devin Peal (Humboldt
State), Paul Peterson (BYU-Hawaii), Marlon Pierce (California State-San Bernardino),
and Atila Santos (Minnesota State-Mankato). San Francisco State’s Bill Treseler
will coach the West squad.
The East All-Star Team consists of Sean Barnette (Wingate), Jeremy Black
(Tampa), Brad Byerson (Virginia Union), Steve Dagostino (St. Rose), Corey
Diethorn (Assumption), Chris Gilliam (Pitt-Johnstown), Charlie Parker (Millersville),
Jonny Reibel (Rollins), Michael Sturns (Holy Family), and Ryan Williams (Pace).
USC Aiken’s Vincent Alexander will coach the East team.
Mosley capped his senior season by being named to the NABC All-Great Lakes
Region first team, the Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region second team, and
the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division
first team. He led Gannon in scoring (16.4) while ranking second in field
goal percentage (56.1) and rebounding (6.5). The senior forward shot 56.1
percent (183-326) from the field, 42.1 percent (16-38) from three-point range,
and 68.9 percent (111-161) from the free throw line. He scored at least 11
points in 25 of 30 games he played in, including a season-high 30 at Wayne
State. His 11-of-12 showing at Tiffin on February 19 accounted for the 11th-highest
single-game shooting percentage among NCAA Division II players this season.
The Boynton Beach, Fla., native ranked seventh among GLIAC players in scoring,
seventh in field goal percentage, ninth in defensive rebounds per game (4.53),
12th in rebounding, 13th in offensive rebounds per game (1.97), and 15th
in assists per game (2.60).
Gannon was one of the best turnaround stories in all divisions of the NCAA.
The Golden Knights rebounded from a 9-17 record last season with a 26-5 mark
and national ranking as high as seventh this season. The squad won the GLIAC
South Division with a 15-2 conference record and is one of two teams in school
history to win 26 games. Only the 1986-87 team that played in the NCAA Division
II title game won more contests with a 28-6 record.
Gannon made its 21st NCAA Tournament appearance last weekend and first since
2005. The Golden Knights picked up their first NCAA Tournament victory since
1995 with a 73-56 win against Drury (Mo.) in the first round last Saturday.
