GANNON MAKES STATEMENT WITH 84-62
VICTORY IN GLIAC OPENER AGAINST NMU
                     
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men’s basketball team put up gaudy numbers during its first three non-conference games of the season. On Thursday evening, the Golden Knights made their first statement of the campaign and had the league take notice with an 84-62 victory over Northern Michigan at the Hammermill Center.
   
Northern Michigan looked unbeatable in the first 10 minutes. The Wildcats hit four three-pointers in the first 3:34 and raced out to a 14-4 lead. The visitors then added three more three-pointers to increase their lead to 27-13 with 10:44 remaining in the first half.
   
Gannon was able to regroup and rallied with a 12-0 run, cutting the deficit to 27-25 on Dave Wilson’s (Vidalia, La./Vidalia) lay-up with 6:38 showing on the clock. Wilson’s jumper 1:46 later gave the Golden Knights their first lead of the evening at 30-28. In all, Gannon out-scored NMU 24-9 in the final 10:44 of the first half and went to halftime with a 37-36 advantage.
   
The second half was dominated by Gannon. The Golden Knights opened the final 20 minutes with six consecutive points. It was part of a 19-2 run in the first 5:48 of the second half. Tyler Stoczynski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) capped the run with a fast-break dunk. The final deficit of 22 points was Gannon’s largest of the night.
   
Vince Mosley (Boynton Beach, Fla./Dillard) led Gannon with 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) added 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. Pierre Howard (Chicago, Ill./Bloom) and Joe Lindsey (Spring Valley, N.Y./Spring Valley) chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.
   
Gannon shot 56.9 percent (33-58) from the floor, including a 63.3-percent (19-30) clip in the second half. The Golden Knights shot 40 percent (6-15) from three-point range and 85.7 percent (12-14) from the free throw line.
   
Northern Michigan’s Jerard Ajami led all scorers with 23 points, hitting five three-pointers. He also recorded five rebounds and five assists. Jake Suardini and Tyler Kazmierkoski added 15 and 12 points, respectively.
   
Northern Michigan shot 51.1 percent (24-47) from the floor, 50 percent (12-24) from behind the arc, and 20 percent (2-10) from the charity stripe.
   
Gannon remained undefeated at 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC with Thursday’s victory. Northern Michigan dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Golden Knights return to action Saturday, December 1 against Michigan Tech at the Hammermill Center. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
