Gannon Healthcare Management Students Visit UPMC Hamot

Gannon University graduate and undergraduate healthcare management students were provided a tour of the hospital and overview of UPMC Hamot’s organization, operations, leadership, and student opportunities during a visit to the hospital’s campus, just a few blocks from Gannon University.

“Students had an exceptional opportunity to see and hear about the internal operations, administrative, and operational responsibilities from key members of the UPMC Hamot executive team,” said Dr. George Couch, Program Director for Graduate and Undergraduate Healthcare Management program at Gannon. “We are grateful to David Gibbons, UPMC Hamot CEO and his entire leadership team for their valuable time and sharing not just what is required of today’s health care leaders, but also how to develop a personal plan of academics, volunteer, internship and other activities necessary to obtain a career in healthcare management.”

UPMC Hamot presenters included David Gibbons, CEO; Carrie Ennis, Director of Corporate Strategy and Corporate Secretary; Carri Milano, Director of Clinical and Operational Informatics; Danny Gessell, Administrative Fellow; Lynn Rupp, Chief Operating Officer; Jim Donnelly, Vice President of Patient Care; and Melonie Jackson, Vice President of Human Resources.

UPMC Hamot is a 423-bed hospital in Erie, PA, offering a full complement of inpatient and outpatient services, and serves as a regional referral hub and Level II Trauma Center. Supported by a 300-member medical staff and nearly 3,000 dedicated employees, UPMC Hamot’s mission is to serve its patients, communities, and one another in the UPMC Hamot tradition of quality, health, healing, and education.

Gannon University Gannon University offers the Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) degree through an executive format with a blend of face-to-face evening courses and online instruction. Graduate students will typically take two courses per semester, each of which is seven weeks, allowing students to focus on a single course at a time. Given the dynamic curriculum and flexible modality, the MHA program is ideal for working healthcare professionals who wish to continue to work while pursuing their education to advance their careers. The part-time program consists of 36 credits with the option of a capstone paper or comprehensive examination. A volunteer service commitment, or internship, of no less than 20 hours is required for individuals not presently employed in healthcare.

Gannon University is a private, co-educational Catholic university in Erie, Pennsylvania. Gannon University has an alumni base numbering around 31,500. Current enrollment is 4,410. Over 100 academic programs, including online and traditional Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree options are offered.
