2009 GUMUN Staff
Being part of a college Model UN staff is a great experience.
Every year a dynamic group of Gannon students comes together to organize one of the oldest high school Model
UN conferences in the nation. Although the majority are Political Science and International Affairs majors,
other students from a wide range of majors in the arts and sciences also participate. Gannon students, under
the direction of the Secretary General, handle everything from public relations to decorating the General
Assembly to running the mock committees at the conference. Every year to kick off the conference weekend
Gannon officers participate in a flag raising ceremony with the mayor who issues a proclamation for support.
2009 GUMUN Secretariat
The Gannon Model UN staff consists of roughly thirty
Gannon students and a faculty moderator. The Model UN club is
open to students of all majors. Paul Foust, an adjunct professor
of Political Science at Gannon University, is the current General
Moderator. Foust has been the General Moderator since 1997.
The 2009 student staff is headed by Andrea Carnicella, a
Political Science major who will serve as Secretary General for the
57th conference.
Issues for the 2009 Gannon Model U.N.
Conference are:
1. Improving Universal Literacy and Education
2. Controlling International Piracy
3. Establishing a Middle East Peace Force
4. Combatting Ethnic and Racial Discrimination
5. Addresssing Global Poverty and Hunger
This year's Model ECOSOC topic will be Promoting Global Economic Cooperation.
A special thanks is extended to Dr. Mark Jubulis for being the Security Council Advisor.
The Gannon Model United Nations would also like to thank all staff
members from the 2008 Conference for an excellent job and we would like
to wish graduating seniors the best of luck! We look forward to
working with returning and new members to help organize and run another
successful Model UN in 2009!
