GUMUN is proud to announce the official dates, issues, and officers for the
57th Model United Nations conference!
This year's conference will be held on November 13th
and 14th, 2009,
on Gannon University's campus. Registration for high school
delegations will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13th. The
General Assembly is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. Final adjournment is
estimated between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14th.
Gannon
political science adjunct professor Paul Foust will serve as the
General Moderator for his tenth straight year. Andrea Carnicella,
a Senior Political Science major and last years Assistant Secretary
General will serve as Secretary General for the 2009 conference.
This year's Assistant Secretary General will be Rebecca Perry, a Junior
Political Science and History major.
The following have been chosen
as the issues of the 57th Gannon University Model United Nations:
1. Improving Universal Literacy and Education
2. Controlling International Piracy
3. Establishing a Middle East Peace Force
4. Combating Ethnic and Racial Discrimination
5. Addressing Global Poverty and Hunger
This year's Model ECOSOC topic will be Promoting Global Economic Cooperation.
The Model Security Council has an open agenda and will
engage in a simulation of a hypothetical world crisis. This
year's provisional topic for the model security council will be announced
at a later date.
