As a potential new member, you should remember that sorority life offers you the opportunity to grow and develop, but keep an open mind during recruitment.
Sorority Rush is the mutual selection process for joining a Greek organization. Through participating in the various Recruitment activities, you will be able to discover the chapter that best suits you. During these activities, you will be able to discover the chapter that best suits you. During these activities, you will meet the "sisters" of each chapter, learn about each group, and their activities and traditions. Be careful in selecting the group you want to belong to. As a new member, you should seek to join the organization that you will benefit from and contribute to most easily. It should be clear that there is no such thing as the "best sorority on campus." Every potential new member will have their own "best chapter" that represents their own individual interests and needs. Do not let your friends or your families influence your decision, if you do not think its right for you.
Remember that the new member period can be hectic, but it is definitely worth it! Make sure that you allow plenty of time for studying before the activities-- scholarship is very important to each organization! Also, allow time before each activity to eat dinner, get ready, or just relax! The first steps in becoming a member of a growing Greek system is to attend Meet the Sororities and registering for recruitment.

Money associated with Greek like is not meant to BUY YOUR FRIENDS, as many opponents suggest. In considering the financial aspects of joining a Greek organization, it is important to remember that membership is a lifestyle that cannot be compared to other clubs or groups at Gannon. In MANY chapters, it is possible to arrange payment plans, so ask if you have questions regarding financial obligations.
The first year of member in a Greek organization
is most expensive because of the one-time fees every new initiate must
pay. Fees may include, but not limited to:
Pledging/New Member Fee-
This fee pays for new member manuals, notebooks, materials, pledge
pins, and national dues.
The Initiation Fee-
This fee includes subscription to the national magazine, lifetime membership,
process of membership, process of membership, and the initiation ceremony.
Chapter Dues-
Part of these fees that each member pays goes into budgets that are
used for expenses such as Recruitment, social functions, service projects,
special events, and other financial situations that are needed to run a
chapter.
Membership in a Greek Organization provides an excellent place to gain the experience and knowledge which is necessary for successful leadership. As a student, you will have many opportunities to become involved with different organizations. Through your involvement, you will find that many sorority members are the driving force in student government and also hold positions in honorary societies, campus organizations and athletics.
Your college career will involve more than textbooks,
classrooms, athletics, and social functions. As a Greek you will have the
opportunity to serve your chapter as an officer or committee member developing
skills in organization, communication, and decision making. Through membership
you can develop leadership potential at Gannon and the rest of your life.
The primary reason for attending college is to receive a sound education and academic achievement is a foundation of Greek Life. Gannon's Greek organizations have a strong tradition of high academic standards that promote education through its own scholarship programs, educational resources and study hours. Sororities devote many hours to helping their members achieve academic excellence, and require all members to maintain a minimum of at least a 2.0 in most chapters to remain in good standing.
At Gannon we recognize the advantages of a well rounded education, and realize that scholarship is the foundation of a strong chapter. By being part of a sorority, you would be part of a community build on high academic standards. Many national organizations were founded to support the scholastic endeavors of college students and strong academic performance. Each year, national organizations continue to encourage alumni groups, foundations, and academic honorary societies to financially support Greek affiliated students with scholarships, grants, low interest loans, and other academic resources. Academic success is simply opportunity meeting hard work, and Greek life at Gannon is that opportunity. The Greek women at Gannon usually have a higher female GPA as well as a higher overall GPA on campus.
