Panhellenic sets the standards that
the five sororities at Gannon abide by concerning such things as hazing
and the recruitment process. NPC, the National Panhellenic Conference was
founded in 1902 and is an umbrella organization for 26 sororities including
Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Phi Sigma Sigma,
and Sigma Sigma Sigma which are the sororities at Gannon University.
Panhellenic exists to embrace a unifying
experience in the Social Greek Community. We stand for good scholarship,
for guarding of good health, maintenance of fine standards, and for serving,
to the best of our ability, our college community. Cooperation for furthering
fraternity life, in harmony with its best possibilities, is the ideal that
guides our fraternity activities. Panhellenic sets up uniform practices
to provide a safe, fun, and efficient environment.
The Panhellenic Council is the governing
body for the five NPC sororities at Gannon. Panhellenic works closely with
the Interfraternity Council to develop Greek programs such as Greek Olympics,
Greek Week, and many service projects. The Panhellenic Council is comprised
of officers who are elected each year. Each chapter has a delegate and
an alternate delegate that represents them and serves on the Panhellenic
Committees. Council members attend weekly meetings to discuss programs
and activities of their chapters and as a whole and report back to their
chapters. The Panhellenic Council coordinates the rush (recruitment) process
for the five sororities through the Formal Recruitment process in the spring
and open houses during the fall. There are six chairs that represent the
Panhellenic Executive Board and each sorority has representatives that
hold these offices to make Panhellenic and Greek Life at Gannon run smoothly
to promote Greek Relations to both the Greek Community and Gannon Community
as a whole.
Panhellenic believes that Fraternity
is a social experience based on the fundamental right of a free people
to form voluntary associations. Fraternity is an enrichment of college
life that many collegians participate in.
