The pursuit of a career in law is a challenging and rewarding choice at Gannon. You can meet the challenge by working closely with professors and your Pre-Law Advisor. We recognize that lawyers no longer only litigate but must be trained to be counselors, mediators, arbitrators and policy makers. We strive to fill the gap between undergraduate study and the law school experience with meaningful coursework that prepares future lawyers for ethical and specialized fields of practice.

The opportunities for placement in internships are an advantage to any student preparing for a legal career. The Gannon location is in the midst of a legal community. The Erie County Court, Federal Court, and City Government offices are all across the street from campus. This allows students opportunities to view and participate in legal practice.

The Pre-Law 3-3 Program offers students the opportunity to attend Gannon University for three years then enroll directly into Duquesne University for an additional three years so that students may obtain their Juris Doctorate Degree in only six years as compared to the traditional seven year program after successful completion of their first year in law school, the student will receive their baccalaureate degree from Gannon University.

The Pre-Law Minor and the Pre-Law 3/3 Program at Gannon University are designed to prepare you for a legal career through a high-quality curriculum that leads to a practical application in the field of law. You will gain practical legal experience through internships, cooperative education, and other meaningful experiences. The program is committed to maintaining an academic environment in which students may succeed by providing developmental and remedial opportunities. The goals include intellectual growth, development of leadership skills, acquisition of effective communication skills, critical and analytical skills, career planning, and preparation for the law school experience.
