Course Description: This course covers the basic concepts of real
property rights: acquisition, financing, ownership, regulation and disposition
of real estate.
Textbook: Practical Real Estate Law- Second Edition, Daniel F.
Hinkel, West Publishing, 1995
Teaching Approaches and Methods: Classes are taught by lecture and
practical applications. The course will most likely be the students: first
exposure to principals governing real estate terminology, ownership and
conveyancing, the basics will be covered in detail. Mortgage financing and the
basics of real estate closings will also be covered. Students will apply the
concepts to factual and/or hypothetical situations.
Exams & Projects: 2 projects will be assigned 2 exams will be given, a combination of subjective and objective. If a student is unable to be present for an exam due to illness or other legitimate reason, he/she will be excused, only, if the instructor is notified prior to the exam and a make-up date is scheduled. When the student returns, proof of illness or other reason must be presented to the instructor.
Course Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, the student will
demonstrate a working knowledge of real estate principles and their application.
The student will demonstrate this through examinations and projects that are
graded assignments. Student will demonstrate an understanding of contracts for
sale and purchase of real estate, financing approvals, title examinations,
ability to prepare deeds, legal descriptions, closing documents.
Attendance: Classroom attendance is strongly recommended. Class participation will help student to achieve a higher level of understanding of the materials and most likely will help student achieve higher grades on exams and projects.

of cheating will be tolerated. Any student violating this policy will not be
permitted to complete the course and will be considered for removal from the
Legal Studies program.
