Sister Mary Norman Award For General Excellence in Nursing

This award, presented to a Baccalaureate Nursing graduating senior and a junior student, is given in memory of Sister Mary Norman who was a member of the nursing faculty of Villa Maria College.

The criteria for earning the award includes:

  1. achievement of a quality point average of 3.5 or higher;
  2. demonstration of a scholarly approach to learning;
  3. demonstration of a sincere concern for client's welfare as well as excellence in providing professional nursing care in the clinical laboratory;
  4. demonstration of qualities of leadership, creativity, loyalty and dedication;
  5. demonstration of awareness of professional and social responsibilities; and
  6. indications of strong professional commitment.

 

 


 

 

Doctor Maryann Kibler Award

The Doctor Mary Ann Kibler Award is presented to a female resident of Corry, Pennsylvania who is a Sophomore or Junior Baccalaureate nursing major and demonstrates high motivation and sincere interest in nursing.

The following criteria will be used in selecting the recipient:

  1. female resident of Corry, Pennsylvania;
  2. quality point average of 2.5(c+) or higher;
  3. demonstrates high motivation and sincere interest in nursing;
  4. demonstrates awareness of social and professional responsibilities;
  5. is active in College and/or community affairs;
  6. assumes responsibility and accountability for her actions;
  7. demonstrates leadership ability and potential for continued growth;and
  8. gives indications of a strong professional commitment.

 


 

 

 

 

Sister Doloretta Scholarship Awards

The Sister Doloretta Scholarship Award is given by the Villa Maria Alumnae Association.

The following criteria will be used in selecting the recipient:

  1. enrolled in Baccalaureate nursing program;
  2. quality point average of 3.25;
  3. exhibit financial need;
  4. demonstrate professionalism; and

Doctor DorothyJean Novello Scholarship Award

The Doctor Dorothy Jean Novello Scholarship Awards are presented to students in the Baccalaureate Nursing major.

The following criteria will be used in selecting the recipient(s):

  1. quality point average of 2.5 or higher;
  2. demonstrates ability to complete the program;
  3. exhibit financial need;
  4. demonstrates an awareness of social and professional responsibilities;
  5. manifests high motivation and sincere interest in nursing.
  6. full time student

 

 


 

 

 

Marilyn Schaffner Memorial Scholarship Award

The Marilyn Schaffner Memorial Scholarship Awards were endowed by Marilyn's husband, James Schaffner, her children and friends. These awards are presented to a full-time junior Baccalaureate nursing major who demonstrates financial need.

The following criteria will be used in selecting the recipient:

  1. financial need;
  2. cumulative quality point average of 2.5(c+) or higher; and
  3. aptitude for an interest in nursing.

 

 

 


 

 

Sigma Theta Tau-Eta Xi Chapter Scholarship

Sigma Theta Tau is a professional honor society with constituent chapters in collegiate schools of nursing accredited by a recongnized accrediting body. The Eta Xi Chapter at Villa Maria School of Nursing was chartered in 1984. As stated in Article III of the constitution of the international society, 'The purposes of Sigma Theta Tau are to:

  1. recognize that achievement of scholarship of superior quality;
  2. recognize the development of leadership qualities;
  3. foster high professional standards;
  4. encourage creative work; and
  5. strengthen commitment on the part of individuals to the ideals and purposes of the profession of nursing.

Scholarship applications are available through the Program Director.

Eligibility is based on the following criteria:

  1. a quality point average of at least 3.0;
  2. demonstration of ability in nursing;
  3. applicants must be a baccalaureate nursing student of at least a Junior level, or a graduate student in an accredited nursing program with at least 20 credits, or a student in a doctoral program with at least 20 credits;
  4. applicants must be a current member of the Eta Xi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau;
  5. demonstrate leadership potential; and
  6. obtain letters of recommendation from a faculty member and an Eta Xi Chapter member.
