HAITI

Recently one of the senior nursing students, Niesa Putigna,  had an opportunity to give nursing care  in Haiti.  Niesa not only gained academic credits for her experience, but also had an experience of a life time.

Niesa shares below a few words and pictures about her experiences.

"On our 2 week medical missions trip my husband and I were able to work in clinics and hospitals around Haiti.  It was a privilege to spend time with these beautiful people, as well as learn about their culture.

Starvation and death surrounded us at every corner we turned. As we walked the street our hearts filled with compassion towards the children who ran out on the road
so excited and yelled 'blanc' or white person.

We were humbled as we held starving children who were in the hospital, and as we spent time with mentally challenged children in the orphanage.  These people needed so many things.  We went there to help heal people physically, and by the time we left we realized that we were to heal mentally, emotionally, and spiritually (holistically) as well.

We found that antibiotics are great for healing, but so is a smile, a touch, laughter, and love.  We touched many people with medicine, and many more with our time and our love.

There is no better experience than to go and serve others.  Ironically when we returned we
reflected upon how much we had been touched, loved, and served by the Haitians."
