The following suggested sequence of courses is intended to assist the
IB major in course scheduling. The suggestions below regarding which
courses should be taken in the fall and spring semesters of each year,
which is not contained in the program's curriculum as it appears in the
Gannon Undergraduate Catalog, on p.158 of the 1998-99 edition, are based
upon course prerequisites, as well as upon the number of sections of the
courses that are typically offered each semester. It is suggested
that courses for which a prerequisite was to have been taken during the
previous year, be taken in the fall semester. The degree of difficulty
of the courses was a factor in the recommendation regarding which semester
18 credit hours should be taken.

* Those students who wish to take only 15 credit hours, including a FL course, during the 1998-99 freshman year, may postpone LS 111 and LS 112 until the sophomore year. Alternatively, those students who are placed in HS 210 (Intermediate German and French are not usually offered in the Fall) may wish to take this course in the Spring of the freshman year and L6 121 in the sophomore year.
** In order to register for SK 114, the student must pass the Math Assessment Exam which is administered from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on Monday of each of the four Summer Orientation sessions; during Preview GU on Monday, August 24, 1998, from 10:15 - 11:15 AM, in Zurn 104; and during the regular school year. For information on the administration of this exam during the regular school year contact Valerie Bacik (871-5569). Students who fail the Math Assessment Exam the first time may retake it once only. Students who do not pass the Math Assessment Exam are required to take S7 055 - Algebra Refresher before taking SK 114. S7 055 is intended to provide the under-prepared student with the transitional work necessary to perform successfully in college math courses. The credits earned in S7 055 may not be included in the total credit hours required for a degree. On the basis of high school math courses taken and grades, score on the math portion of the SAT, and the Math Assessment Exam, this course may be waived, in which case there would be a corresponding increase in the number of free electives.
*** Students who have taken a foreign language in high school may wish to continue with it during the freshmen year at a level dependent upon the Foreign Language Department placement guidelines.
**** indicates suggested writing intensive courses, of which there must be three, one in the senior year.
