Performing Webpage Updates

Getting Started

        **Before you start
        1.Make sure that your Netscape Preferences are set correctly.
        In Netscape, click on Edit, Preferences, Composer, Publishing.
        Make sure that "Maintain Links" and "Keep images with page" are NOT CHECKED. This will simplify the publishing process for the webmaster.
        2. Do not use long filenames with embedded spaces. This can cause difficulties later.
      1. Double Click on the Netscape icon to open the program.
      2. Go to the URL or location of the web page you would like to change. This can be done by entering the location or by going into

        select the web page to be changed
      4. After locating the web page to be changed, select File, Edit Page.

      5. After you are in edit page, select the File, Save As command.
      6. Select the local drive, usually Floppy (A: ) to save your files.
      7. Next click on the Save button.
      8. Make the appropriate changes to your web page.
      9. After you have made the changes, select the File, Save command.

Getting your Update Web Page to the Server



There are two options for updating your web page to the server.
Option #1: Bring the diskette to John Crandall in Palumbo 3000 - 3rd Floor.
Option #2: Email the files to the webmaster (webmaster@gannon.edu) with complete explanation on disposition.

Option #1:

      1. Place all the files web page, graphic files, and all other files on a diskette.
      2. Call John Crandall at extension 7178 to set up an appointment to review the web page.
      3. In the meeting with Pat, explain the files to be placed on the web page and the location of the current web page files.
Option #2:
Email the files to the webmaster with complete explanation on disposition.

      1. Select Eudora e-mail
      2. Compose a message.
      3. Send message to: webmaster
      4. Subject: Updating web page
      5. Body of the message:
Include the following details in the e-mail to the webmaster:
    • Who you are
      Example: AJ Miceli
    • If you currently have a web page
      Example: I currently have a Gannon web page.
    • The location of the web page
      Example: The web page is located under ‘Faculty Pages’
    • Explain any graphic changes:
      Example: I have added additional clip art to my web page. The name of the clip art is anim9.gif. I have changed my picture, please update my photo. The photo name is miceli.jpeg file. I have also add some additional links to other web pages. Please update the web page at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

      IMPORTANT!
    • Before sending the message, be sure you have attached all of your documents with the message.

      Select Message (from the pull down menu)

      Select Attach
      Locate all the files on the diskette (a:)

      Select Open
      (The screen will begin to look like the following:)
      Continue this process until all the files that have changed appear on the screen next to the word Attached:.
    • Once all the files have been attached, the message is ready to send. Click on the Send button.

      Your web page will go to the webmaster and updated accordingly.
