Approval of May, 2008 Minutes

Ken Brundage had one correc= tion. On the second page under Project Ideas for FY10 (informational), the fourth li= ne, the word suppository sh= ould read repository.

John motioned to approve the minutes with the one correction and Cindy seconded them. All were in favor, with three abstentions, and the minutes were approved with the noted correction.

Confirm Meeting Logistics –= ; Mark

Mark explained to the commi= ttee that this was the first time that the TAC met in September. Usually the fir= st meeting is in October, but at the May meeting the committee decided to meet= in September to get a head start on our unit plans.

Mark welcomed all members a= nd stated that Jill will email the agenda for each meeting and ask everyone to respond to her of his/her availability for each meeting. He proceeded to go through the logistics of the committee and asked the members to stay inform= ed of any decisions made by the committee and take those decisions back to the= ir respective offices. He reiterated that the meetings are on the first Thursd= ay of every month, excluding January, at 3:00 pm in WCC 219. Two exceptions th= is semester will be the October 2nd meeting which will begin at 3:30 instead of 3:00 pm, and the November meeting is scheduled for = Friday, November 7 at the usual time of 3:00 pm and place. He asked the committee if there were any schedule conflicts, and there was one with one of the SGA re= ps, Tom Russo has lab at this time. Bri of SGA will= find another student to be a TAC rep.

Unit Planning

Quick Review of Process. Va= l explained that the new process is to bring up some ideas/plans in the spring, present them in October, and vote on them in November.
Identify Plans to be presented = in October. Mark distributed a hand-out with the FY10 unit Plan Ideas for TAC consideration. Mark asked if there were any other ideas. Virginia t= old the committee that TLTR met last week and will be championing Robust Survey Administration Capability, Student eportfolios, and On-line Testing Capability. They have removed Classroom= Demonstration Cameras.

John stated to the committ= ee that InfoPath can be removed from the list.

There is an add on to Student Ed Plans, students can plan out their course schedule three to four years out.

He also stated that there = is nothing else planned with Datatel.

AJ Miceli (representing Ti= m) spoke on the SPSS licensing. He stated from a practical standpoint we need= it. Mark spoke up saying that it is troublesome because it is a recurring fundi= ng cost and Val added that it was for faculty use and the faculty used it for classes. Consequently, the licenses were being used up quickly. AJ, still speaking for Tim, brought up the subject of the multi media studio in the basement of the Nash library being a possible unit plan. It is used by many departments i.e. English, Marke= ting, CIS, etc. Mark stated that the committee wants to get away from the replace= ment kind of funding.

Mark wanted to put somethi= ng on the table for ITS. With all of the expansion being done at the university, = they are working on a job description for hiring another telecommunications pers= on.

Mike stated that there are= items on the list that we have not talked about and Mark stated that either the champion for that unit plan is not here or there is not enough interest.

Mark once again stated tha= t there is $57,000 for funding in the TAC budget. He then asked Laurie to talk about the Imaging of Admissions Applications, which is to her credit. She said th= at it is up and running. Two components, international applications are online= as well as all of the undergraduate day population. Since we are approaching a lock-out situation, she would like to look into how many licenses are being used at certain times of the day.

Bri, SGA rep, discussed several student related issues, i.e. scheduling of computer labs for testing, paper in Waldron printer, computer labs in the Morosky = Academic Center, can student= s pay for additional printing with their GU Gold card, and double sided printing. Mark addressed or agreed to follow up on these issues. Chris, SGA rep, asked when would Z130 be completed and Mark answered by the start of the spring semester.

ITS Start of Semester updates. Mark

Ø ITS started to pu= blish an on-line newsletter called infoBITS that talks about what is happening in ITS.

Ø Erie Technology Incubator (ETI) has exceeded= all expectations. There are three starter companies, two affiliate companies, t= hree tenants about to be appointed by the Board, and eighteen additional applications. There will be a grand opening on October 3 at 10:30 am and to= urs will start at 8:00 am.

Ø Installed fingerprint scans for security in = ETI.

Ø Morosky = Academic Center has a lot of technology; ten to twenty-four classrooms are done; and on the first floor there will be a place for an interactive directory where you can locate a person in the building and if that person is not in the building, it will s= how you where to find him/her.

Ø Zurn 101, upgraded technology and tiered seating for about = 80 students.

Ø Zurn 104, sound = and projection have been upgraded

John gave an update on Col= league Advancement. Cindy Duda, Laurie Bednar, Marilyn Moore, and Eric Sponseller worked on preconversion activities. After regio= nal training with Allegheny and Mercyhurst, they wi= ll be getting additional training.

Mark stated that the on-li= ne employment applications project is going well. John, Kurt Spence, and Ed Saloum developed a system to manage all changes in the IPM.

Updates: the Ad Astra, sch= eduling software, is being upgraded; converted to Sallie Mae; students can pay by electronic check.

John made the motion to ad= journ and Bri seconded it.
