MICROSOFT OFFICE 2003

 

 

 

 

ICONS:  After an upgrade to Microsoft Office 2003 the icons on your desktop will look and be labeled differently than they were before.  And they may be in a different location or missing altogether.

 

  • In older version of Microsoft Office the icons were simply labeled Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, etc.  In Microsoft Office 2003 the icons are labeled Microsoft Office 2003 Word, Microsoft Office 2003 Outlook.  Because of the length of these labels Windows will automatically truncates them.  See Fig. 1 below.

  • To move the icons back to their original location left-click and hold on the icon, drag to the desired location and release the left mouse button.

 

  • To recreate an icon that is missing click Start, Programs, Microsoft Office and then right-click on the office program and click Send To and click Desktop (create shortcut).

 

 

MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2003:  Outlook 2003 will look quite a bit different than previous versions.  Follow the instructions below to make Outlook 2003 appear more like previous versions.

 

·         READING PANE:  To move or turn off the Reading Pane click View, Reading Pane and click Bottom or Off.

 

·         NAVIGATION PANE:  This is a new feature in Outlook 2003.  Follow the instructions below to get this to look more like Office XP.

o        TO SHOW FEWER BUTTONS:  Click the down arrow at the bottom and click Show Fewer Buttons. (Fig. 2)  Do this until all the buttons are on the bottom. (Fig. 3)

o        TO REMOVE BUTTONS:  Click the down arrow and click Navigation Pane Options…  (Fig. 4)  Uncheck Mail, Notes, Shortcuts, and Journal so that the list looks like Fig. 5 below and click OK.

  • The bottom of your navigation pane should look like Fig. 6 below.

MICROSOFT ACCESS 2003:  There are no functional differences between the XP and 2003 versions of Microsoft Access.  If you currently have icons created for Macros that you’ve created in Access XP, you may have to recreate these icons once the upgrade to Offices 2003 has been done.
