Why is it necessary to review the IT

Who has to review and accept the IT
Code of Conduct?
§ ALL students, faculty and staff. Even if they are new to Gannon and accepted it at the start of the Fall semester; they accepted the old version and need to accept the new version.
How has the IT Code of Conduct
changed?
§ Added a section that describes the consequences of violating the policy (loss of network privileges, disciplinary action and/or referral to proper authorities)
§ Added a Prohibition to ensure faculty and staff do not install un-licensed software
§ Clarified the Prohibition section:
o Gannon faculty and staff cannot conduct business unrelated to the University without approval of the University. This is specifically aimed at commercial activities (i.e., those for financial gain). For example, if I am running a landscaping business and want to use my Gannon PC to email invoices, I must first get the approval of my supervisor. This would NOT apply to producing a newsletter for a professional organization or ordering a Christmas gift for someone on-line during your lunch break.
o Students, faculty and staff cannot use technology resources excessively or inappropriately for non-Gannon purposes. It is OK for us to browse websites of personal interest, store personal files, etc. as long as it is not inappropriate and does not impact others using resources for academic purposes. For example, I can listen to the web stream of a favorite radio station unless doing so ties up bandwidth that hampers others trying to conduct academic research on the web. There are additional examples in the policy.
§ Added a Privacy section so everyone knows that it may be necessary for University officials to view electronic files to maintain the system or conduct investigations.
Who was responsible for changing the
policy?
§ The Technology Advisory Committee, which includes representation from SGA and all areas of the University, drafted the changes in Spring, 2003, reviewed them with Faculty Senate, our constituencies and Gannon’s lawyer before approving them. President’s Staff approved the changes and required all students, faculty and staff to review and accept them in Summer, 2004.
