As an information systems major, you will develop skills in design, modeling, development, and testing of computer and information systems. To support these technical skills, you will also learn to use and to critique technology and apply technical skills in business while practicing teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills.
The information systems field is one of the fastest growing employment markets in today’s society. Within the next ten years, one million systems-related professionals will be needed in the United States. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, salary offers for information systems graduates average about $45,000 per year, with a range of $40,000 to $48,000.
What systems will you improve?
The computer and information sciences (CIS) department houses computer science, information systems and software engineering majors.
The department fosters strong industry connections which promote employment and internship opportunities.
The CIS department operates several laboratories providing students with hands-on experience in a variety of modeling, design, and development environments. Support of the labs is maintained by a full-time systems administrator and several student-employed lab assistants.
Gannon information systems majors have the opportunity to be involved in organizations that include the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity and the Student Development Trust.
