What You'll Be Doing

Foreign Language opens up global possibilities Gannon University believes in the many possible paths communicators can travel. If you are interested in learning different languages, applying linguistic expertise in business or politics, or learning about the diverse cultures that exist in our world, Gannon’s foreign language program can help you explore possibilities and build a career that fits with your interests. As a foreign language major, you will develop the cross-cultural understanding and linguistic expertise that will enable you to compete for jobs in our changing global marketplace.

Foreign language graduates can pursue advanced studies in programs such as business, public administration, language or literature, or they can qualify for jobs in international business, translation and interpretation, teaching, journalism, linguistics, civil service, foreign service, customs, banking, consulting, market research and imports/exports. Salaries vary greatly depending on career choice, location and level of degree earned.

 

College Connections

Gannon’s foreign language program is housed in the College of Humanities, Business and Education, making interdisciplinary studies seamless.

Foreign language works well as part of a dual major in disciplines such as international business, history or political science.

Curriculum and Course Descriptions
Major Facts

    • Gannon foreign language students have the unique opportunity to choose from four different career tracks:
    - Foreign language and international studies, with an emphasis in business
    - Foreign language and international studies, with an emphasis in government
    - Foreign language and literature
    - Foreign language teaching program for Spanish, K-12

    • Gannon encourages students to take advantage of study abroad opportunities. Recently, students have participated in study abroad programs in Spain, Quebec and the Czech Republic.

    • Gannon University has developed an initiative to encourage study abroad at St. Edmund’s College of Oxford University.

    • Gannon’s foreign language courses are taught in modern language labs. Students also have access to these labs for individual study.

    • Gannon University students can experience shorter overseas study tours to various destinations, such as: China, Italy, England, France, Greece, Ireland, the Canary Islands, Egypt, Turkey, Australia and New Zealand.
