What You'll Be Doing

Students in Computer lab Gannon University believes students who are passionate about technology are tomorrow’s leaders of the advancement of software technology. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a database administrator, system programmer, application programmer, network specialist or telecommunication specialist, Gannon’s computer science program can provide you with the foundation you will need. As a computer science major, you will prepare yourself for managing projects and developing software for business, government, industries and fi nancial institutions.

Computer science professionals rank extremely high in job satisfaction and enjoy being a part of one of the fastest growing job sectors in the country. The advancement of computer-based technology in all areas of modern life continues to create new job opportunities for creative computer specialists. Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in computer science may earn an annual salary of $40,000 to $45,000, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

 

College Connections

The computer and information sciences (CIS) department houses computer science, management information systems and software engineering majors.

The CIS department operates three laboratories – a teaching lab, a multimedia lab and a networking lab.

The CIS department is a chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM Chapter) and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Major Facts

    • Graduates from Gannon’s computer science program enjoy nearly 100 percent placement in employment or graduate studies.

    • Recent Gannon computer science graduates have secured employment at top organizations, including American International, General Electric, Lockheed Martin and Progressive Insurance, to name a few.

    • Computer science undergraduates participate in internships to complement their education. Students have interned at locations such as American International, Erie Insurance, General Electric, Hamot Medical Center and Lord Corporation.

    • Gannon’s computer science program is accredited by the ABET Computing Accreditation Commission.

    • All Gannon computer science students develop a prototype system as their senior design capstone project. The prototype provides analysis, design and development experience through a team-based effort.
