Gannon University believes in the many possible paths creative thinkers can travel. Whether you are interested in Internet marketing, television, print news, radio, public relations, event planning, sales promotions or advertising placement, Gannon’s advertising communications program can help you achieve your goals. As an advertising communications major, you will learn about the many ways to effectively communicate in today’s advertising and promotions industry, build the skills necessary to apply your talents as a creative person, and gain real world experience in the field.

Employment projections for positions in advertising and public relations through the year 2012 are expected to increase by 21 to 35 percent (growing faster than average for all occupations). Depending on location, the average starting salary for advertising majors is $29,495. Positions available in related fields include media sales representative, account executive, media buyer or planner, public relations director, marketing consultant, copywriter and more.

 

Advanced Business Technology Certificate

The Advanced Business Technology Certificate is a value-added approach to business courses. Some business courses will offer the option of taking a one credit Advanced Business Technology session, which integrates advanced instruction in the application of computer technology with the content of the specific courses. Students completing a minimum of six one-credit Advanced Business Technology courses during their tenure as students at Gannon University will earn this certificate. It will serve as one source of evidence for students to confi rm to potential employers that they have advanced knowledge, skills and abilities to use technology-based business applications to improve their job performance.

 

College Connections

Advertising communications is housed in The Gannon University Dahlkemper School of Business Administration. Students in the advertising communications program interact with students and professors in the fields of accounting, business administration, finance, international business, management, marketing, risk management and insurance, and sports management and marketing.

The Dahlkemper School of Business Administration at Gannon has received accreditation from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), making Gannon the first business school in northwestern Pennsylvania with both undergraduate and graduate programs that are nationally accredited.

All Gannon business students have the opportunity to participate in many professional business organizations, including: the Gannon Accounting Club, Student Investment Trust, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, Gannon Student Advertising Club, Delta Mu Delta Honorary Business Fraternity and Marketing Club.

    • Academic and merit scholarships for advertising communications majors are available through the Business Excellence Awards.

    • The Gannon Student Advertising Club provides students with experiences in the advertising field, such as participating in the Advertising Women of New York City Career Conference, and touring some of the world’s largest and most prestigious ad agencies and public relations firms.

    • Juniors at Gannon may choose to pursue an accelerated MBA program and complete both their undergraduate and graduate degrees in just five years, rather than six.

    • Senior students participate in an internship to acquire hands-on, real world experience.
