section 3.2: Eligibility Requirements
To maintain their good standing within the honors program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Students must maintain a 3.25 GPA each semester, and they may not have any grade lower then a C in any honors course. Two successive semesters with a GPA below 3.25 or three nonconsecutive semesters with a GPA below 3.25, or a grade in an honors course lower than a C will result in dismissal from the program.
- Students must participate in five honors events during the course of the academic year. It is recommended that students attend three in the first semester and two in the second. Students who do not fulfill the events requirement during any academic year will be dismissed from the program. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the director and the Student Advisory Board.
- The monthly meetings are mandatory for all honors students. These meetings are normally held the second Tuesday and Thursday of each month during the 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. activities period. The exact dates are set each semester by the SAB based on the academic calendar. Students must attend one of these two monthly meetings. At these meetings, The honors program meets as a whole to discuss news and upcoming events. Lunch is normally provided. Students who miss two meetings in one semester without notifying the chairperson or secretary must arrange an interview with the director to discuss their continued participation in the program.
section 3.3: Graduation Requirements
There are three levels of recognition for honors students:
- Honors Scholar: The student must have completed twenty-four honors credits and six credits of a foreign language, and have fulfilled the other requirements of the program
- Associate Honors Scholar: The student must have completed eighteen honors credits, or twelve honors credits and six credits of a foreign language, as well as have fulfilled the other requirements of the program.
- Honors Recognition: This is for students whose programs make it difficult to schedule honors courses. Students receive honors recognition if they earn twelve honors credits and are active in the honors program during their four years at Gannon.
Participation in the honors program does not increase the number of credits for graduation, nor does it involve extra cost. Honors courses for the most part are honors sections of courses in the liberal studies core.
