The Center for Social Concerns strives to make service an integral part of a Gannon education and to create a culture of service and citizenship within the community. It provides opportunities for reflection on the service experience to encourage critical thinking about the concerns of our society in order to develop thoughtful leaders.
We encourage students to become involved with the campus outside of the university walls by providing volunteer opportunities centered around student skills and interests. Students who reach out to others acquire a greater understanding of complex social problems and a commitment to address the problems in a just and compassionate manner.
The Center for Social Concerns helps tomorrow's leaders start community leadership roles today. We encourage the entire Gannon community to become involved in the campus outside of the university walls by participating in several main areas of service.
The Office of Service-Learning provides students with experiential learning whereby community service is used as a teaching tool in academic coursework. Service-learning connotes a reciprocal relationship in which students and community agencies provide mutual benefit to one another. Gannon’s Office of Service-Learning supports the integration of faith, service and learning by building innovative bridges among students, faculty and community agencies. Students develop problem-solving skills to work for the common good and address real-world challenges. Gannon students who are enrolled in service-learning courses are encouraged to develop lifelong habits of service, civic engagement and continued learning in order to maintain the vital foundation of our democratic society.
