Meet Our Sororities!

The fraternity and sorority community at Gannon University began 50 years ago and still continues to thrive today! Please take a moment to learn a little about what makes each organization unique!

 

Alpha Gamma Delta (AGD)                                                         418 Peach Street

Alpha Gamma Delta, or AGD, was founded internationally on May 30, 1904 at Syracuse University in New York. The Zeta Gamma Chapter here at Gannon was founded on September 18, 1976. The sorority’s colors are red, buff and green and their mascot is a squirrel. The women of AGD represent their core values of scholarship, personal health, friendship, sisterhood, altruism, responsibility, standards and public awareness through their continued participation in campus activities. Each year Alpha Gamma Delta sponsors the Mr. and Miss GU Pageant supporting their philanthropy, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Alpha Sigma Alpha (ASA)                                                          253 West 5th Street

Alpha Sigma Alpha, or ASA, was founded nationally on November 15, 1901 at Longwood College in Virginia. Locally, they were founded as the Zeta Gamma Chapter on April 24, 1993. The women of ASA represent their core values of responsibility, respect, growth, and learning through their ever-growing sisterhood and exceptional attention to academics and scholarship. The sorority’s colors are crimson and white and their mascots are a ladybug and Raggedy Ann. ASA sponsors an annual Winter Carnival that benefits their national philanthropy of Special Olympics. The women of Alpha Sigma Alpha contributed over 800 hours of community service throughout the 2004-2005 academic year.

Alpha Sigma Tau (AST)                                                              812 Myrtle Street

Alpha Sigma Tau, or AST, was founded nationally on November 4, 1899 at Eastern Michigan University. The Delta Alpha Chapter made their appearance beginning on April 17, 1993. The sorority’s colors are emerald green and gold and their symbol is an anchor. Their philanthropy is the Pine Mountain Settlement School and this year they continued their tradition of collecting major donations for the Mercy Center Shelter. This close knit group of sisters can be found all over campus in a number of student organizations or at their brand new house on Myrtle Street!

Phi Sigma Sigma (FSS)                                                               164 West 5th Street

Phi Sigma Sigma, or Phi Sig, was founded nationally on November 26, 1913 at Hunter College in New York. Locally, the Theta Gamma Chapter was founded on May 8, 1993. The sorority’s mascots are a lighthouse and a dolphin and their colors are king blue and gold. This strong group of women supports the World Aids Day cause by sponsoring a week of awareness events. The women of Phi Sigma Sigma are a diversely talented group of motivated women who strive to better understand the meaning of true sisterhood through their common bond in Phi Sigma Sigma membership!

Sigma Sigma Sigma (SSS)                                                         226 West 8th Street

Sigma Sigma Sigma, “Sigmas” or “Tri-Sigmas”, was founded nationally on April 20, 1898 also at Longwood College in Virginia. Epsilon Delta Chapter at Gannon University was founded on January 19, 1985, and celebrated 20 years on campus this past January! The sorority’ symbol is a sailboat and their colors are royal purple and white. The women of Sigma Sigma Sigma represent their fraternal values of sisterhood, service, leadership, learning, integrity, and excellence, through their continued participation in such campus events as GIVE Day and Relay For Life, as well as their continued participation as readers in the Hooked On Books Program.

Panhellenic Council                                                                   106 Keim Commons, WCC 

Panhellenic Council, or Panhel, is the umbrella governing body for our 5 inter/national chapters of sororities. A collegiate chapter of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), the Gannon University Panhellenic Council is responsible for enforcing the policies and procedures of NPC as well as the University. In addition these women also work with IFC to plan Greek Week, Greek Olympics, Dorm Storm, Tailgate and Tuesday Night Dinners. Panhellenic Council also serves as a functional representative on the Gannon University Student Government Association (SGA). Panhellenic meets every other Wednesday at 9:00pm in the Stubler Room of the Waldron Campus Center.
