Dear Potential New Member:
Welcome to Gannon University and thank you for your interest in fraternity or sorority membership!
A social Greek-letter organization is a group of individuals of similar interests bonded together by common goals and aspirations. These bonds are created through rituals in which all members participate. Rituals are based on common principles such as honor, friendship, truth, and knowledge. Each organization works to instill these values in its members through their everyday activities. They are referred to as “Greek” organizations because the name consists of Greek letters that serve as a reminder of the values of the group.
Fraternities and sororities were founded on four basic principles: leadership, scholarship, service, and friendship. The Office of Student Organizations and Leadership Development assist fraternities and sororities as they strive to fulfill these basic principles. Gannon University fraternities and sororities provide that "home away from home" for students who choose to affiliate with one of our 10 groups.
We are proud of the positive impact that fraternities and sororities can have on their members. I encourage you to explore the additional links provided to learn more about what fraternity and sorority life can offer you while at Gannon! On behalf of the Office of Student Organizations & Leadership Development (SOLD), again I welcome you and if you have any questions concerning the fraternity and sorority system, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Fraternally,
Eric Pope
Associate Director, Office of Student Organizations & Leadership Development
