Gannon Scholarships/Awards

Students who have been accepted to Gannon as full-time students will be considered for a combination of institutional aid as well as state and federal grants, loans and employment. In most cases, students do not have to complete additional applications to be considered for Gannon awards.

The University offers a variety of scholarships, grants and awards in recognition of students' academic and athletic accomplishments, demonstrated need and outstanding talents. These grants and scholarships are renewable each year based on criteria defined in related publications. The following is a list of the various types of institutional aid available at Gannon.

Academic and Merit Scholarships/Awards                    ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-2013
Presidential Scholarship* Full Tuition

Eligible candidates must apply and be accepted to the University by December 15, 2011. The top 10% of accepted students by this date will be invited to compete in a scholarship contest with the ability to earn a full tuition scholarship. Up to the top 10 participants in the scholarship contest will receive full tuition scholarships. Details of the scholarship contest are included with students' acceptance letters.

Founders Scholarship* up to $15,000

All students who are invited, and choose to participate in the above mentioned contest, will have their Admisions merit award increased by $1,500. Up to the top 10 participants in the scholarship contest will receive full tuition scholarships. Details of the scholarship contest are included with the students' acceptance letters.

Academic Excellence Award* $13,000- $13,500 Award amounts are based on academic merit as well as SAT/ACT scores. Students who perform exceptionally well may have the opportunity to increase their scholarship/award amount and receive either the Presidential or Founders Scholarships.
University Scholars Award* $11,000 Award is based on academic merit as well as SAT/ACT scores.
Provost Achievement Award* $8,000 -$10,000 Award amounts are based on academic merit as well as SAT/ACT scores.

Maroon & Gold Award*

$3,000 - $5,000 Award amounts are based on academic merit as well as SAT/ACT scores.
Diocesan-Related Awards (Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania)
Diocesan High School Grant* $1,500 Awarded to graduates from the Catholic high schools in the  Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania.
Diocesan Parish Grant $1,000 Awarded to active members of a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania.
Academic Competitions  (held at Fall Open House)
Chemistry* $500 -$3,000 Awards are based on students' competition performance.
Education* $500 -$3,000 Awards are based on students' competition performance.
Biology* $500 -$3,000 Awards are based on students' competition performance.
Business* $500 -$3,000 Awards are based on students' competition performance.
Engineering* $500 -$3,000 Awards are based on students' competition performance.
Communication and Language Arts* $500 -$3,000 Awards are based on students' competition performance.
Social Science* $500 -$3,000 Awards are based on students' competition performance.
Need-Based Award  (available to incoming freshmen and transfer students)
Gannon Grant Varies Based on demonstrated financial need of the family (FAFSA required.)
Additional Scholarships and Grants
Academic Sports League* Varies Awards are based on high school participation in ASL tournaments.
Athletic Scholarship Varies Based on demonstrated athletic ability; awarded by the respective athletic coaches.
Catholic High School Grant * $1,000 Awarded to graduates from any Catholic high school in the U.S. (outside the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania.)
Edward Lamb Model U.N. Scholarship* $1,000 - $3,000 Based on academic merit and participation in Model U.N.
National Catholic Forensic League* Varies Awards are based on high school participation in forensic tournaments.
ROTC Room and Board Scholarship Varies Awarded to winners of the three- and four-year designated Army ROTC Scholarships (FAFSA required.)
Schuster Memorial Music Award (requires a separate application) $1,000 Based on musical talent demonstrated by instrumental performance audition at Spring Open House. Read More >

Transfer Student Awards
Gannon Transfer Scholarship $7,500 Award is based on calculated GPA from prior school(s).
Gannon Transfer Award $5,500 Award is based on calculated GPA from prior school(s).
University Transfer Award $3,500 Award is based on calculated GPA from prior school(s).
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Up to $2,000

Available to incoming transfer students who were members of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at their community college, a U.S. citizen and have at least a 3.0 college GPA. Read More >

Delaney Medical School Scholarship Fund Varies Awarded to students who graduated from an Erie County, Pennsylvania high school and Gannon, and who enroll in an allopathic medical school; award is based on need. Read More>



* These scholarship programs require students enroll directly out of high school.
