GANNON UNIVERSITY FACULTY STAFF NEWS

The following Gannon University faculty and staff members have been making news.

Berwyn Moore, associate professor of English, recently was named the winner of the Bellevue Literary Review’s second annual Magliocco Prize for Poetry.

Moore’s winning entry was titled “After the Light.” She dedicated to the poem to her mother, Constance Doris Roberts Moore, who died in February. The poem is also about her father, George Moore, M.D., and her parents’ marriage of 60 years, as well as Berwyn Moore’s relationship with her mother before her passing.

In addition to a $1,000 prize, her poem will be published in the spring, 2007 issue of the Bellevue Literary Review.

The review is published by the department of medicine at New York University and includes previously unpublished works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that touch upon relationships to the human body, illness, health, and healing.

 James E. Miller, assistant professor and director, accounting program, recently was recognized for five years of service as faculty adviser to the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business Administration. Delta Mu Delta recognizes and encourages academic excellence of students at qualifying colleges and universities to create a community that fosters the well being of its individual members and the business community through lifetime membership.

Miller received a framed certificate for his service to the organization.

Sally L. LeVan, Ph.D., professor, English, and Cheryl O. Rink, assistant director, Experiential Education, and adjunct lecturer, business administration, presented at the Mid-Atlantic Cooperative Education and Internship Conference. The conference, titled “Co-op and Internship Ideas, Resources and Strategies for the 21st Century,” was held in Rehoboth Beach, Del. LeVan and Rink gave two presentations: Preparing ESL Students for the Workplace and Using the Mock Interview Process to Link the Classroom and Experiential Education.

Sister James Francis Mulligan, SSJ, adjunct lecturer, College of Humanities, Business and Education, recently was chosen for papal honors. Sr. Mulligan was a recipient of the Papal Cross.

  • Prayer service tonight: St. Mark Seminary invites the Gannon Community to its annual “Festival of Lessons and Carols” for Advent and Christmas on Monday Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. This traditional prayer service of Scripture and hymns has been prepared by the seminarians. Bishop Donald Trautman will preside. St. Mark Seminary is located at 429 East Grandview Blvd.

  • Mark your calendar: The Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable (TLTR) is hosting the annual Technology Buffet on Friday, Jan. 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Palumbo 1050 (CETL). The Buffet will feature classroom revision project highlights from faculty members. Presentations will be given by: Michael Caulfield, Kimberly Cavanagh, Catherine Gillespie, Carolyn Knox, Betty Jo Chitester, Weslene Tallmadge, Margaret Clark, Thomas Comstock, Suzanne Richard, Penelope Smith, and Karinna Vernaza. Tex Brieger will demonstrate the new learning management system, Angel. A representative from Smart Technology will be present to discuss technology tools for the classroom.

  • Corporate brand identity guide: Gannon faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to visit the web site for Gannons Office of Public Affairs and Communications. On the site, you can access the universitys new corporate brand identity guide. This comprehensive guide details the Believe marketing and branding initiative and also has important information on use of Gannon University logos. The web site also includes an editorial Style Guide that has some of the most frequently asked questions regarding grammar and punctuation. It serves as a quick reference for those producing memos, letters, brochures, fliers, publications and other documents. Please take a moment to visit the site.
