GANNON SOCIAL WORK
CLUB TO HOST CHRISTMAS DINNER AND WELLNESS FAIR
This weekend, the Gannon
University Social Work Club is expected to serve a Christmas dinner to
nearly 900 homeless and less fortunate local residents and also offer them
free clothing, and shoes. This is the 29th year that the
Gannon University Social Work Club has hosted the annual Christmas Dinner
and Wellness Fair. The meal, visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus,
and the Wellness Fair will take place this Saturday, Dec. 2, from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Hammermill Center, and Beyer Hall Cafeteria.
The event is free and open to the public.
Numerous local social service agencies and organizations will be on hand
to offer attendees information on housing, health-related screenings and
other related topics. The agencies that will be represented include but
are not limited to: Bayfront NATO Martin Luther King Center, Booker T.
Washington Center, Boys & Girls Club of Erie, Community Health Net, Erie
City Mission, GECAC, and Mercy Center for Women. Representatives from the
Child Identification Program will also be present to conduct free
fingerprinting and there is also an activity/craft room for children in
Room 219, Waldron Campus Center.
Gannon’s undergraduate students who are majoring in social work are
responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating the entire event,
under the direction of their professor and Social Work Club adviser,
Parris Baker. Gannon students, and faculty in the Criminal Justice
Department as well as other faculty, student groups and student-athletes
from across campus also volunteer at the event.
The schedule is as follows:
10:30-11:15 a.m.
– Gannon Admissions Department offers organized and guided campus tours to
adolescents 13-17 years of age. *Tours meet in the Waldron Campus Center
lobby.
11:15 a.m.
– Full holiday meal is served in the Beyer Cafeteria and Hammermill
Center.12:15
p.m. – Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus great the children and give each child a
new and wrapped Christmas present- Yehl Alumni, Room, 2nd
Floor, Waldron Campus Center.
12:15 p.m. – Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus great the children and give each

Mass cancellation: The 12:05 p.m. mass
scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 28) in the Chapel has been canceled
due to Monsignor Yehl’s funeral. The funeral mass will be held at 11
a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 130 East Fourth Street.

The First Friday Erie program is
scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1. The Gannon Community is invited to attend
the program beginning with Mass at 7:30 a.m. in the Chapel, followed by a
light breakfast in the Upper Lounge. This month’s program is
the final First Friday Erie program and the speaker will be Gino Carlotti.
In the future, First Friday Mass at the Chapel will be celebrated at 8
a.m.

November 30; Dec. 1-3; Dec. 7-9 –
Gannon
University’s Schuster Theatre: “The Dead.” Schuster Theatre will
present a holiday musical adapted from James Joyce’s literary
masterpiece. Set in 1904, the last and best known of the short stories
collected in the Dubliners, this intimate musical portrays a homespun
Yuletide party with Irish music, dancing, food, drink, and good
fellowship. Directed by Shawn Clerkin, assistant professor, theatre, and
director of the theatre program. All shows are at 8 p.m., except for
Sunday matinees at 3 p.m.

Friday, December 1 – Gannon University’s Erie Chamber
Orchestra:
This
performance will be the annual Christmas Concert Sing Along and will
feature the St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral Children’s Choir. The concert
is free and open to the public and will be held at 7:30 p.m. at St.
Patrick Church, 130 East Fourth Street.

Saturday, December 2 – Social Work Club Christmas Dinner and
Wellness Fair: The dinner, the 29th annual, will provide a full
meal, Christmas presents and clothing for the homeless and needy in Erie
County. It will be held FROM 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Hammermill Center and Waldron Center. The
Wellness Fair provides much-needed employment, housing, human service
education, information, and health screenings to attendees. Call ext.

Saturday, December 2 – Gannon University Christmas Party:
The Jingle Mingle will be held at Rainbow Gardens. The reception will
run from 6:15-7:15 p.m., and the dinner will begin at 7:15 p.m. You can
dance the night away from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Ticket holders may bring
libations. In lieu of canned goods, you can make a donation to the
United Way of Erie County.

Monsignor Addison Yehl, professor of chemistry. Monsignor Yehl taught at
Gannon for 55 years. Today, Monday, Nov. 27, there will be a
viewing from 4-8 p.m. in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel. On Tuesday,
Nov. 28, his body will lie in state from 9-11 a.m. at St. Patrick Church,
130 East Fourth Street, prior to the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St.
Patrick Church.
