GALLERY FEATURING WORKS OF NORTHWEST PENNSYLVANIA ARTIST ASSOCIATION

Gannon University’s Schuster Art Gallery will celebrate the upcoming holiday season with an exhibition from the Northwest Pennsylvania Artist Association (NPAA). The exhibit will be on display through December 8.

An opening reception will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12. Light refreshments will be served. All events for the gallery, located on the third floor of the university’s Nash Library, 619 Sassafras Street, are free and open to the public.

The NPAA is a private, non-profit visual artists’ organization formed to help define fine art to the general viewing community, to protect the interest of artists, and to provide scholarships to promising student artists. The NPAA is run completely by member and non-member volunteers.

The organization was formed in 1974 by a core group of professional artists whose resumes included national and/or international recognition as well as regional awards and/or higher art education. When the NPAA was founded, there was a need for professional artists to band together to help promote the arts and protect their endeavors from being exploited. Because of the group’s stringent application process, it is considered a great honor to be accepted.

One of the NPAA’s activities is an annual group exhibit. The exhibit at Gannon’s Schuster Gallery features the work of more than 40 NPAA members, each of whom was invited to share two or three pieces, depending on their size.

The 2006-07 Schuster Gallery season, A Lifelong Journey, will present artists and their work in all facets of their lives and careers. Upcoming exhibits include:

• Stairways Center for Behavioral Health, Center for Arts and Humanities, Jan. 22-March 2, 2007.

• The paintings of E. Charney, professor of art, Wittenberg University, March 12-April 13, 2007.

• Gannon University Faculty/Student Art Show, April 16-May 4, 2007.
