OPEN HOUSE TO BE
HELD SUNDAY, NOV. 5; ON-SITE ADMISSIONS AGAIN OFFERED
Gannon University on Sunday,
Nov. 5 will award $192,000 in scholarships during its annual Fall Open
house.
Funds will be awarded to
students who place in Scholarship Contests to be offered in the following
academic areas: foreign languages (French, Spanish, and German), biology,
chemistry, engineering, English, and education. Three scholarships will be
awarded in each area, with first place worth $3,000, second place $2,000,
and third place $1,000.
In order to qualify,
students must enroll as full-time undergraduates at Gannon. The
scholarships are renewable annually provided that students meet certain
eligibility requirements. The exams will begin at 10 a.m.
The rest of the Open House
schedule is as follows:

11 a.m. – Optional mass in the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel,
512 Peach.
·
11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. – Registration in the lobby of the
Waldron Campus Center, 124 West Seventh Street.
·
12:30-1 p.m. – Welcome remarks given by Gannon University
President Antoine M. Garibaldi, Ph.D., Fr. Nicholas Rouch, vice president
of mission and ministry, and others in the Hammermill Center, Peach Street
and South Park Row.
·
1-3:30 p.m. – Opportunities to meet with faculty,
administrators, and athletic coaches and to tour the campus and downtown
Erie. Various locations.
·
1-4 p.m. – On-Site Admissions. Students can meet with an
admissions representative to learn the status of their application.
Students will receive one of two decisions: admission or hold status
awaiting final decision. Representatives will meet with 45 students in the
Office of Admissions, 162 West Sixth Street. Students must meet certain
academic requirements in order to qualify for an interview.

1:15-2 p.m. – Admissions and financial aid presentation,
Yehl Room, Waldron Campus Center. This presentation will be repeated from
3:30-4:15 p.m.

News of interest on and around campus...

Gannon’s Waldron Campus Center last week
hosted the two-day convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Northwestern
Pennsylvania. The convention, the 96th annual, was attended by more
than 150 Episcopalians, including clergy and delegates, from across the
13-county diocese.

From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, there
will be an open house (with lunch) at The Gannon University Collins
Institute for Archaeological Research (Palumbo Center room 2203) to discuss a
study-abroad trip planned for June or early July, 2007. The project
is the Archaeological Expedition to Khirbet Iskander, Jordan. It includes
travel to fantastic sites, including an optional trip to Egypt. The trip, costs, procedures, and available grants will be
discussed during the open house. Three
credits are available for students. For more information, contact
Dr. Suzanne Richard, associate professor, history, at ext. 5605.

Pie for All: This tasty, annual event will be
held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 in the Waldron Center. It is
sponsored by the Gannon Social Work Club. Pie can be purchased for $1 a
slice or $10 for a whole pie. The Gannon Community is asked for donations
of pie. Pies can be dropped off in the Waldron Center between 10:15-10:30
a.m. Personal pie pans should be labeled and picked up following the
event. All proceeds will benefit the 29th annual Social Work Club
Christmas Dinner and Wellness Fair, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2 in
the Hammermill Center and Yehl Room.

Distinguished Faculty Award Portrait Placement:
Mark your calendar for Friday, Nov. 3. From 3-4:30 p.m., a portrait for
Phil Kelly, professor, English, and director, New Faculty Mentoring,
will be added to the gallery of Gannon’s Excellent Teachers. The event
will be held in the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning on the
first floor of the Palumbo Center. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Friday-Saturday, November 10-11
– Gannon University Model United Nations:
Some
500 students from more than 40 high schools are expected to participate
in the two-day event, the 54th annual. Gannon’s Model U.N.
seeks to bring high school students together to address various current
issues at the source of global tensions. The Model U.N. is also designed
to help the students understand the complex nature of international
affairs and the purpose and function of the United Nations.
