FOUNDATION MAKES
$86K IN GRANTS TO VILLA MARIA SCHOOL
OF NURSING
Gannon University’s Villa
Maria School of Nursing has been awarded two separate grants from the
Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation (PHEF).
PHEF awarded the School of
Nursing a $78,000 Nursing Education Grant for the current
academic year (2006-07). Gannon will use the grant to provide scholarships
to students in both its bachelor’s and master’s programs in nursing. The
scholarships will benefit students pursuing careers as both professional
nurses and as nurse educators.
In addition, PHEF awarded
the School of Nursing an $8,000 Nursing Scholarship for Low Income
Individuals Grant, also for the current academic year. The grant was
made possible through a donation from National City Bank and is designed
to help all students pursue a degree and a career in nursing.
More about the Pennsylvania Higher Education
Foundation
To help reduce
the Commonwealth’s shortage of nurses, the Foundation in 2002 launched a
comprehensive nursing education financial assistance effort that offers
students grant and loan forgiveness. The initiative reflects the
Foundation’s commitment to create programs and services designed to
promote the importance of higher education.
Nursing Education Grants offered by the foundation are designed to help
the grant recipients, like Gannon, offer additional financial support to
students, thereby helping schools boost enrollments in their nursing
programs.

everything happening on campus: events, news related to the university and
its employees, important announcements, etc. Your help is needed to
make Under the Arch as effective as possible. Please notify us of
any news, specific to you or your department, that would be of interest to
the Gannon Community. For example, if you attend a conference, present a
paper, complete work on an advanced degree, or have any other news to
share with your colleagues, please send it to Nick Pronko, media relations
officer. Submissions can be e-mailed to
pronko001@gannon.edu. To be included in
a forthcoming Monday edition, information should be submitted by the
